Softball: Fultondale 19, Vincent 13

The teams slog through a very wet field and pitchers have issues with a slippery ball, but nonetheless top-seeded Fultondale emerged on top with a 19-13 win over Vincent in the first round of the Class 2A Area 11 Tournament Thursday at Fultondale Elementary.

The win guarantee the Wildcats a berth in next week's regional tournament at Liberty Park.

The Wildcats went into the fourth inning down 9-4, but scored 12 runs and nearly batted around twice.

Catcher Sarah Day was 3-for-5 in hitting with a double, and drove in three runs. Katrina Hubbard scored three times on two hits and two walks. Merridith Cochran also came home three times, and hit a run-scoring double.

The Wildcats face the winner of the loser's bracket game between Vincent and Victory Christian-Pell City later today, weather permitting.
