JACKSONVILLE — Six weeks into the season, and seventh-ranked Fultondale’s Richie Busby is still unbeaten as a head coach thanks to a 44-13 win at Pleasant Valley on Friday night.
Busby can thank quarterback/safety Kris Lewis for much of the effort in the sixth victory of the campaign. He scored four touchdowns in three different ways — runs for 29 and 10 yards, a 47-yard scoring pass to Brandon Lewis (the only completed pass of the night for the Wildcats) and a 46-yard interception return.
Brandon Lewis also scored on a 45-yard run in the fourth quarter, and Ryan Johnson retaliated for the Raiders’ first touchdown by returning the following kickoff 65 yards to paydirt.
Lucas Ford found Andrew Lewiski for two touchdown passes for Pleasant Valley: a 34-yard throw in the second quarter and a 55-yard bomb in the third.
Kyree Robinson rushed 11 times for 80 yards, while Jared Stewart’s one run of the night went for 61 yards.
The Wildcats’ ground game was good for 247 yards on 29 carries, averaging 8.5 yards per run.
Fultondale (6-0, 4-0 region) is now assured of a playoff berth, and will host Vincent next week in what is now the Cats’ homecoming game. That special event was moved forward a week because of the possibility that Victory Christian-Pell City might forfeit the following week’s game, which was originally scheduled as homecoming.
