GARDENDALE — Outside hitter Cassie Snow came through with a big match, as Gardendale defeated Hewitt-Trussville 25-11, 25-17 and 25-17 in a Class 6A area volleyball match Tuesday.
Snow led the Rockets with nine kills, six digs, five aces and four blocks. “She played one of the best games I’ve seen her play in a while,” coach Lauren Morrison said.
Gardendale went through the first set with relative ease, jumping out to an early lead and never looking back. But the second and third sets were a little more adventurous, as the Huskies came back to take leads midway through each before the Rockets regained their composure and the lead.
Finishing what they started has been an issue for Morrison’s squad this season.
“They did a fantastic job tonight. We have not been playing very consistently throughout the season — lots of ups and downs,” she said. “We haven’t really been able to finish out matches when we’ve been ahead — teams would come back within a couple of points and taken it from us. For us to stay ahead and finish ahead is a huge milestone for us.”
Middle blocker Kelci Tuggle and four kills, setter Kelsey Hallmark distributed 18 assists, and libero Emily Rodgers had 13 digs for Gardendale (7-10, 1-1 area).
Stephanie Jones led Hewitt (3-9, 0-2 area) with nine kills and four blocks. Libero Erianna Hall had 13 digs.
