JASPER —
The top of the batting order came through from Hayden, as they scored three runs on four straight hits in the top of the 13th inning, taking an 8-5 marathon victory over homestanding Curry in an Area 11 softball game Monday night.
Kaci Jinright, Kayla Byrd, Caitlin Kirkland and Katie Parr each hit safely with one out, with Kirkland’s double bringing home Jinright and Byrd.
The game was tied 3-3 after regulation time, with Parr driving in a run in the first inning, and scoring in the fifth on a passed ball. She then put the Wildcats up 5-3 with a home run in the ninth, only to see the Yellow Jackets bounce back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game again.
It was a make-up game from a rain-out in March, and set up Tuesday’s game at Mortimer Jordan to decide the regular-season area title and home field for the tournament next week. A win by the Wildcats would give themselves, Jordan and Curry all 4-2 records within the area (assuming Hayden defeats Walker on Thursday), with the Cats getting the tiebreaker on record over other Class 5A opponents. If Jordan wins, they lock up the top seed and the tournament site with a 5-1 mark.
