CHELSEA — Hunter Middleton scored a hat trick Monday night, as sixth-ranked (Class 5A) Pinson Valley won a 4-2 decision at Chelsea, the No. 9 team in Class 6A.

The Hornets' Will Bevill scored 25 seconds after the opening kickoff, then Middleton got his first goal in the 15th minute, from a Josh Almandarez assist.

After Sam Shaw put the Indians ahead on a header off a Gio Molina corner kick in the 25th, Middleton struck again not long after halftime off a corner from Almandarez.

Shelton Smith scored an unassisted goal for the Hornets to close the deficit to one goal after an hour, but Middleton clinched the victory shortly thereafter, scoring from Ramon Cupido's free kick.

Jamie Vargas had 12 saves in goal for Pinson (10-3-4). Josh Carpenter logged six saves for Chelsea (9-7-3).

The Indians travel to Hewitt-Trussville on Tuesday night, then face Huffman at home on Thursday.
