HAYDEN — A 12-2 run-rule drubbing by Walker on Monday has put Hayden squarely behind the eight ball for any hopes of playing in the Class 5A baseball playoffs.
The Vikings opened up with four runs on just two hits in the first inning, and never relinquished the lead. The Wildcats scored their only runs in the bottom of the first, with one coming in on a Luke Wall triple.
But from there it was all Walker, with Richard McCarty hitting a pair of triples and catcher Logan Nix going 2-for-4 plus a walk with three RBIs and two runs scored.
James Tidwell went all six innings on the mound for the Vikings, allowing four hits but with just one strikeout. He issued no walks, but did hit two straight batters with pitches.
The loss means that Hayden must sweep a doubleheader today at Walker to lock up second place in Area 12 and a post-season berth.
