VESTAVIA HILLS — Pinson Valley had rough going at the Vestavia Hills Softball Tournament, with a pair of losses Friday.

The Indians fell to the host Rebels 14-2 in five innings, and then lost to Bibb County 10-2.

In the loss to Vestavia, three Pinson errors led to early baserunners, which in turn led to a seven-run rally in the second inning.

Caroline Hardy smashed three homers for the Rebels — two solo shots and a two-run smash.

The Indians were held to just three hits by Rebel pitcher Rebecca Hein, who struck out nine.

Emmie Waldrop drove in a run on a single in the third inning. Lauren Tralongo was caught stealing second base in the second inning, but that play allowed Amber Howard to steal home.

Against Bibb County, Waldrop was 2-for-3 and drove home a run for the Indians.

Kaitlin Crocker scored on an unusual four-base error. Leading off for Pinson, she cracked a sharp line drive to left field that was misplayed by the Choctaws, allowing the speedy shortstop to come all the way around to the plate.

Bibb pitcher Mandi Woodruff struck out eight and allowed five hits. Amber Howard worked six innings in the loss for Pinson, fanning four but conceding eight hits.

Woodruff was also 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs, and Marena Miles hit a three-run double for the Choctaws.

Dallas Payton was also 2-for-3 for the Indians.
