Girls basketball: Fultondale 43, Corner 36 (OT)

FULTONDALE — A basket by Corner’s Avery Wakefield with 37 seconds left tied the game in regulation, but Fultondale went on an 8-1 run in overtime for a 43-36 victory in girls basketball action Monday night.

The two teams battled closely all the way through regulation, with the lead going back and forth and neither team enjoying more than a five-point advantage. But Zakaira Adams opened the extra period with a quick basket, followed by a 3-pointer by Jakayla Pollard, and the Yellow Jackets’ shooting touch went cold at the end.

Pollard led all scorers with 20 points. Katrina Hubbard and Chelsea Howard added seven points each for the Cats.

Wakefield finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead Corner.

Fultondale (8-3) heads to Vincent for an important Class 2A area matchup on Tuesday, while the Jackets host Curry.
