Boys basketball: Mortimer Jordan 65, Ragland 57

ODENVILLE — Mortimer Jordan defeated Ragland 65-57 in the first round of a boys' basketball tournament at St. Clair County on Friday night.

The Blue Devils were rusty from their two week break over the holidays, falling behind 12-18 after the first quarter. However, a 15-5 advantage in the second quarter gave the Devils a lead they would never relinquish.

Jordan was led by point guard Mark Louis with 20 points, including a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line, plus 13 assists. Seth Barnett added 15 points, with eight of those coming in the fourth quarter.

Forward Ben Hardiman shot 100 percent from the field, including two treys; he finished with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and four blocked shots.

Jeremy Brock led all scorers with 21 points and Cody Jones added 11 for Ragland (11-5).

Jordan (14-1) plays the host Saints on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
