Boys basketball: Pinson Valley 70, Randolph 51

ALBERTVILLE —

It took a while to get rolling, but Pinson Valley overcame a sluggish first quarter to slam Randolph School in the second, on their way to a 70-51 Indians victory in the WQSB-Albertville Civitans Christmas Classic boys’ basketball tournament at Albertville High on Thursday.

Pinson outscored the Raiders 28-5 in the second quarter, overcoming a four-point deficit after the first eight minutes, and coasted from there to the win.

Marcus Merriweather led all scorers with 19 points, Donevan Waldrop added 11 and Johnathan Marable 10 for the Indians.

Tre Tipton led Huntsville-based Randolph with 13 points.

The Indians play Boaz in the quarterfinals of the 16-team tournament at 10:30 Friday morning.
