Boys basketball: Mortimer Jordan 69, Moody 51

KIMBERLY — Mortimer Jordan used an up-tempo game in Friday's win over Moody that is a bit uncharacteristic for those in the past coached by Lynn Elkins. And the coach says fans may need to get used to it.

"That's the way I think we're going to have to play," Elkins said after Jordan scored a 69-51 win over Moody, their first win of the young season. "We've got a lot of young kids, so we're trying to see who can play what and who fits in."

Dalton Hidson scored a career-high 26 points in the victory, coming off a 5-point effort the night before in a loss to Corner.

"He's the guy we're counting on to score, that's for sure," Elkins said.

Jordan (1-3) got off to a bad start, as Moody began with an unusual 6-point play of sorts — a 3-pointer with a foul away from the shot that gave the visitors the ball again, which they followed up by draining another trey. But that was the best of it for Moody, as Jordan quickly came back and took the lead for good within three minutes.

From that point it was all Jordan, as they mounted a 17-point lead by halftime, withstood a modest comeback attempt by the "other" Blue Devils, and coasted to the win.

Colby Moon added 17 points for Jordan.

Trevor Webster led Moody (0-2) with 12 points, Devante Williams scored 11 and Tadarrius Campbel 10.

Jordan plays next week in the Hanceville Thanksgiving Tournament.
