HAYDEN — Hayden jumped out to an early lead with eight runs in the first two innings, as they notched their first Class 5A area win of the season with a 12-2 mercy-rule decision over visiting Curry on Tuesday.

Six Wildcat batters each recorded two base hits. Designated hitter Adam Payne had a double and a single, and scored twice. Luke Wall was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, as was Josh Helms.

Helms went the distance on the mound for the Wildcats, allowing just three hits and one earned run while striking out five Yellow Jackets.

Lane Oliver hit an RBI double for the Jackets, and then scored on an error.

The two teams do battle again Thursday, this time at Curry,
