Quarterback Blake Byrd had a hand in four touchdowns, including the last three of the game, to lead Corner to a 39-25 comeback win at Bibb County.
Byrd scored on a 9-yard run early in the first quarter, then threw a 9-yard pass to Kerry Smith with 9:34 left in the third quarter to tie the game at 25-25.
Byrd then had two touchdown runs, each for two yards, to put the Yellow Jackets ahead for good. The latter score came at the end of a marathon 19-play drive, in the fourth period, which started after Mark Williamson intercepted a pass by Choctaw quarterback Terry Lockett.
After Corner took the lead on a 9-yard run by Austin Sanford with 30 seconds left in the first quarter, the Choctaws scored three straight touchdowns, including a 61-yard run by Rance Gaddis.
Troy Elliott’s 48-yard field goal — his longest of the season — with 13 seconds left in the first half cut the margin to 25-18 at intermission.
From there on, it was all Byrd for the Jackets. He finished with 130 yards rushing on 26 carries, and also threw 16 completions in 27 attempts for 132 yards.
Sanford gained 129 yards on 17 carries.
Kerry caught five passes gor 38 yards before suffering a rib injury late in the game; he is expected to recover for next week.
Austin Wood led the Corner defense with 10 tackles (two for loss), one sack and a fumble recovery.
Gaddis had 140 rushing yards on 16 carries for Bibb County. Lockett was 9-of-19 passing for 199 yards and one interception.
The win gives Corner the third seed form the region. They will face Dadeville in the first playoff round in two weeks.
