Girls basketball: Hayden 63, Mortimer Jordan 51

KIMBERLY — Hayden built a big early lead, then withstood a late rally by Mortimer Jordan for a 63-51 victory in Class 5A Area 14 girls basketball action Tuesday.

Kaylan Hines led all scorers with 26 points, includng five 3-pointers; her 19 points in the fourth quarter was the main push behind the Blue Devils late effort. Four of her treys came in the final period.

After leading by 10 at halftime, the Wildcats took command with a 12-0 run in the third quarter. They led by as many as 21 points before Hines got hot from outside the arc.

Center Katie Parr led the Cats with yet another double-double, scoring 22 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Evin Bibb scored 15 points, and Sharley Miller had nine points and eight assists.

Hayden (16-4, 5-0 area), winners of eight straight and 11 of their last 12 games, has the area regular-season title locked up. They play their final Area 14 game Tuesday at Walker. Jordan (9-10, 1-3) heads to Curry on Monday.
