PINSON — Tenth-ranked Pinson Valley had little trouble with visiting Walker on Friday, winning 12-2 in five innings in the first game of their first-round best-of-three series.
Colby Wingard went all five innings on the mound, striking out seven Vikings while giving up two hits, one walk and one earned run.
Scott Falkinburg drove in four runs, three of them on a double. Josh Hines and Jason Little each went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs, while Austin Little was also 2-for-3 with one RBI. Tyler Evans was hitless but sent home two runs — one when he hit into a bases-loaded double play, the other on a bases-full walk that ended the game on the mercy rule in the bottom of the fifth.
Bryant Atkins went 3-1/3 innings in the loss for Walker.
The game was originally scheduled to be part of a doubleheader, but the second game was moved to Saturday because of a wet field, and Friday’s game was delayed 2½ hours. The second game will be played Saturday at 1 p.m. A third game, if necessary, will follow immediately thereafter.
