PINSON — For the second straight game, Pinson Valley went into overtime, but this time with a different result.
Donevan Waldrop hit a pair of free throws with just 4.5 seconds left in the extra period, as the Indians defeated visiting Shades Valley 63-62 in boys basketball action Monday.
Down by 11 points at halftime, Pinson went on a 12-0 run to open the second half, and outscored the Mounties 19-8 in the quarter to tie the game after three periods.
Harrison Johnson's blocked shot at the end of regulation kept the game knotted at 53-53.
Waldrop finished with a game-high 16 points plus six assists. Zach Jackson also scored 16, and Kerry Griffith notched his second double-double of the new season with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Shades Valley (0-2) had four players score in double figures, led by Jeremy Carter with 16. Cortlin Davis scored 15 and Jahal Robinson added 11.
The Indians (1-1) travel to Hewitt-Trussville on Tuesday night.
