Lady Torches fall to Covenant, beat Marion

The Tabernacle Christian girls overcame a rout by Huntsville’s Covenant Christian Monday night by edging out visiting Marion Christian on Tuesday.

Tuesday – Tabernacle 35, Marion 34: Candace Coleman seems to have gotten over her ankle injury, as she scored 23 points – including a 3-pointer that gave the Torches the lead for good with two minutes left.

Coleman also grabbed seven rebounds, and Sarah Walker added six boards.

Amy Boyle led Marion with 15, and Hannah Blalock had 11, with three 3-pointers.

Monday – Covenant 51, Tabernacle 15: “We got a whoopin’.”

Coach Philip Coleman’s succinct summary told all there was to tell about the Falcons rout of his Torches.

“They’re really good, they have great three-point shooting and they’re tough on defense,” he said. “We did what we could do, but we played a really good team.”

The Falcons held Tabernacle to just five points in the first half.

Heather Zassoda and Candace Coleman scored six points each. Zassoda had four rebounds and Coleman grabbed three steals.
