Devils to face tough Curry club

By Charles Prince

The North Jefferson News

Mortimer Jordan head coach Greg Watts is expecting a tough battle Friday night when the Curry Yellow Jackets come to Jimmie Trotter Stadium for the season and region opener for the Blue Devils.

“Curry’s got a new coach (Shay Oliver) and he’s teaching them toughness in a run-oriented Wing-T attack,” Watts said. “We looking for them to come in here fired up and ready to give us a really good battle all the way.”

Watts club played Clay-Chalkville pretty much even in yards gained last week, but three turnovers allowed the Cougars to come away with the win. Preventing turnovers will be a key this week.

“We’ve got to protect the football and block a little better on the offensive line,” Watts said. “We played hard against Clay and we were proud of the effort. We need to play the same way this week, playing hard and swarming to the ball on defense. If we do that, we can win.”
