Dabbs wants better blocking

Football usually comes down to blocking and tackling. Tabernacle head coach Keith Dabbs wants to see his offensive line execute better than they did last Friday.

“We need to block better,” Dabbs said. “We didn’t do a very good job with it last week.”

This week, Dabbs Torches face Marion Academy, they’ll be facing one of the biggest backs in the CFA, a 260-pound sophomore fullback Robert Royster, who lets the Panthers pound the ball straight ahead, setting up some deep throws down the sidelines.

Last week, Marion dominated Victory-Christian, 31-8 to win their opening game in the CFA.

“From what I’ve been told, they don’t have the overall team speed we do,” Dabbs said. “We’re expecting them to run right at us. We need to stop the big back and block better if we’re going to win.”

Tabernacle’s starting running backs Landon Ingle and Matt Wade are both banged up, but could be ready to play by game time according to Dabbs.

One change expected in the backfield for the Torches will be Dylan Hargreaves playing more at the quarterback position, following an injury to first-year starter John White last week.

For now, Landon Ingle, who lined up at quarterback in a shotgun set, but he’ll move under center some this week, with Hargreaves spelling him from time to time to give Ingle a breather.

This is Marion’s second season of 8-man football.
