Torches’ boys, girls win state games

The Tabernacle boys whipped Tuscaloosa, 10-4 to move into today’s ACEAA state baseball tourney championship game.

Earlier in the day, the Lady Torches crushed rival Tuscaloosa 16-1 on Friday morning to move into the ACEAA state softball tourney semi-finals.

Baseball:

Tabernacle 10,

Tuscaloosa 4


Junior Landon Ingle (5-0) threw four innings of three-hit ball to pick up the win. He allowed one earned run and struck out four.

Seth White came on to pitch the final three innings, allowing two hits and one earned run. He struck out two.

At the plate, Steven White led the way, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored.

Austin Thompson had one hit, one RBI and scored one run.

Frankie Doganiero went 2-for-3 and scored two runs.

Tabernacle improved to 16-3 and will likely meet two-time defending state champion Northside-Dothan in today’s championship game.

First pitch for scheduled at 12 p.m.

Softball:

Tabernacle 16,

Tuscaloosa 1


Senior Natalie Axt (7-3), threw a three-inning no-hitter. She allowed no earned runs and struck out one.

At the plate, the Lady Torches swung their bats well, but also showed patience, as they collected 13 hits, six walks and were hit by pitches three times.

Meredith White led the way, going 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs scored.

Senior Elizabeth Wesson went 3-for-3 with a triple, two stolen bases and two runs scored.

Genna Evans went 2-for-2, was hit once by a pitch, drove in three runs and scored twice.

Ashley Zassoda scored two runs without an official at bat. She walked once and reached base after being hit by a pitch on her other trip to the plate. Tabernacle improved to 14-6.

Softball:

Northside 12,

Tabernacle 5


Later in the day, the Lady Torches fell into the loser’s bracket and will need to win three games today to take the title.

Axt (7-4) took the loss, despite allowing only three earned runs.

Savannah Harper had two doubles and Anna Jankowski had a double, an RBI and a run scored.
