House rigged to breed weed

NORTH JEFFERSON — Warrior police removed a marijuana production setup from a residence in Warrior on Friday.

According to Warrior Police Officer Corey Archer, police were investigating a call at about 7 p.m. about a suspicious odor coming from a broken window of a house on the 9100 block of Smith Glen Road. One officer went through the window and discovered

marijuana growing in the house.

“The whole house was used to manufacture marijuana,” said Archer. “One bedroom was full of pots. It was completely sealed off, draped with plastic, and had foil on the windows.”

Police said the house was completely rigged to accommodate the marijuana’s growth. Police say the setup could have cost as much as $10,000, not including the value of the marijuana.

Archer said the air conditioning and ventilation system in the house had been completely re-routed to regulate the temperature and atmosphere in the areas where marijuana was being grown. A Warrior narcotics officer said marijuana requires a heavily controlled atmosphere in order to thrive.

“He even had timers and blower motors,” said Archer.

In addition to the metal duct used to rig the ventilation system, police also seized four ultraviolet lights used to grow plants indoors, numerous pots, at least six pounds of marijuana and large amounts of several different fertilizers and other chemicals.

Archer said the house was unoccupied when police arrived, but that they are seeking one suspect, pending warrants. Some of the charges that could be brought against the suspect are manufacturing of marijuana, trafficking marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. The marijuana has been transported to a toxicology department.
