KIMBERLY —
The Kimberly City Council said goodbye to one of its own, at least temporarily.
Brad Stark, the mayor pro tem, was attending his last meeting before taking a one-year leave of absence. Stark, a major in the National Guard, will be deployed with his unit on an overseas assignment. For security reasons, Stark could not go into details on the record.
In his absence, the council has appointed Donnie Gooch to fill in.
Fellow council members and Mayor Bob Ellerbrock sent Stark off with a Bible and their blessings.
The council also voted to spend $6,649 out of the fire department’s equipment escrow account to purchase a power pack unit for the department’s second rescue truck. The packs are used to run equipment such as “jaws of life” metal cutters. The other truck already has such a unit.
The power pack is a demonstrator that the city will obtain at a discount, saving more than $2,400 over the list price for a new unit.
In other business, the council:
• Declared a 1998 Ford Crown Victoria police car as surplus, ordering it to be sold;
• Rehired City Clerk Sandy Waid, Police Chief James Belding and City Attorney Charlie Waldrep for the next council term, while postponing action until the next meeting on hiring municipal court staff, a fire chief and his assistants;
• Moved its next meeting to December 27. The council normally meets on the fourth Monday, which this month falls on Christmas Eve.
