MORRIS — Judy Dippenworth, 68, has been living in Alabama for six years after living most of her life in the northern United States.
• Where are you from originally?
I was born and raised in MIchigan. I lived there until I was 19, and then I moved to Maryland. I got married when I lived in Maryland, in 1963.
• What type of work did you do there?
I worked for the State of Maryland doing income taxes. I got started doing data entry, and then took the test for the income tax division. I started there as a clerk and then ended up in the refund unit. I retired from there.
• How did you end up in Alabama?
I had gotten divorced and had retired from Maryland. I first moved to Florida because my daughter was there. I lived there six months, but I didn’t like Florida. So I moved to Alabama because my son was here. Then after two years, my daughter moved up here too.
• What was it like to have your family back together?
We were all happy.
• Tell me about your family.
My son is Frank and my daughter is Phyllis. I have four grandkids: Austin is 13, Justin is 5, Jenna is 4 and Kylis is 10.
• Do you spend much time with your grandchildren?
Yes. When they moved to Florida I missed them terribly. Now I usually get them on the weekends.
• Have you done much traveling?
I’ve been all over. I’ve been to California, Arizona, Nevada, New York, Texas and Wisconsin. I’ve never been out of the country, but I would like to travel to Europe.
• How has traveling affected you?
It made me see a lot of things differently.
• What do you do for fun?
We go to the movies. I like to watch the grandkids roller skate and go swimming.
• Is there anything about yourself that most people do not know about?
I’ve done some painting and some drawing. I took some classes and also learned on my own. I like it, but don’t really have time for it.
