Another emu is on the loose, this time in the Morris area — and he’s not very friendly.
The large bird’s mate was captured last week, after she was seen roaming around a neighborhood in the south end of Gardendale. The male bird was reported to Morris police on Monday, who then passed the word along to their counterparts in Gardendale, according to GPD Cpl. Jim Unangst.
“The female we caught was very docile,” Unangst said. “The owner says the male is very aggressive. People do not need to try to approach it. These birds are extremely powerful.”
The owner of the birds notified the Birmingham Humane Society that the pair had gotten away from his property, which is located near New Castle. “They both got away from him,” Unangst said.
Anyone who sees the emu should contact the Morris Police Department at 647-0596, or their local police.
