GARDENDALE — The Associated Press is reporting that Henry Lagman, a Shelby County lawyer representing the Rev. Dr. Terry Greer, said his client was caught in a "perfect storm" of personal and professional problems when police say he murdered his wife and wounded his daughter.
Greer remains hospitalized at UAB, where he was admitted on Jan. 10, shortly after the shooting incident at the parsonage of Gardendale-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, where Dr. Greer was the pastor. He now is also suffering from pneumonia, Lagman said. Greer was in "a very dark place," Lagman said to the AP.
Greer's wife, Lisa, was killed and their daughter was wounded. The family had been appointed to Gardendale-Mt. Vernon during last summer's North Alabama Conference, swapping churches with the Rev. Dr. Rudy Guess. Dr. Greer came to Gardendale from First United Methodist of Decatur.
When he is released from UAB, Dr. Greer will be taken into custody, where he will be charged with one count of murder and another count of attempted murder. He will be held without bond.
