NORTH JEFFERSON —
Good Thursday morning to you, and welcome to another beautiful day.
Weather: Today’s sunshine is expected to continue throughout the day, with a high of 64. The low for tonight is a chilly 38, with only a 10-percent chance of rain.
Police chief gone: Morris Police Chief Brian Cochran is no longer employed with the city of Morris. On Wednesday morning, Mayor Joe Pylant told Cochran that Cochran’s services “were no longer needed” in Morris. Cochran says the abrupt dismissal was due to a personalvendetta after an officer pulled over Pylant’s wife during a traffic stop three years ago; Pylant denies that the decision was personal. He said he did not reappoint Cochran to the position because the former chief did now show up for an organizational meeting and for other factors that Pylant said he could not disclose. Pylant said he would likely appoint a new chief this week.
