Flash flooding hits metro area

A series of thunderstorms that developed over Jefferson and Shelby counties has caused widespread flooding, and prompted the issuance of a flash flood warning by the National Weather Service.

The warning is in effect until 2 p.m.

Reports of flooding have come from the Shady Grove Road area of Mt. Olive, as well as multiple locations in Fultondale.

NWS radar estimates two inches of rain fell in a one-hour span in northern Jefferson County.

Heavy rain has fallen throughout the county, and thunder from the storms could even be heard on television broadcasts of SEC Media Days in Hoover.
