It's Tuesday, and grab an umbrella...

Weather: Stormy. We are in for rain showers and occasional thunderstorms today, more likely in the afternoon. Highs will be near 80 with rain chances at 70 percent. More rain is in store tonight with a low in the middle 60s; precipitation chances are 80 percent. The rain continues tomorrow, but moves out by evening.

Former Brookside police chief indicted. Dennis Ray McCoy was indicted last week on seven charges of ethics violations, unlawful breaking and entering of a vehicle, theft and unauthorized use of a vehicle related to incidents just before h was fired in January. McCoy was arrested Friday, and released on $30,000 bond. A co-defendant named Lisa Aldridge was also arrested and named as an accomplice; she was arrested and released on $10,000 bond. We'll have more on this story as it develops today.

Senate showdown. U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and freshman Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) threw the first blows in a fight over a bill passed by the House that would strip funding from the Affordable Helath Care Act, also known as ObamaCare. Cruz is vowing to allow the government's debt limit to remain frozen, which would cause a partial government shutdown, while Reid is using various parliamentary maneuvers to block Cruz.

Fultondale calls for a raise. The Fultondale Council voted to give city workers a 1-percent raise over and above merit raises through the Jefferson County Personnel Board system. The council approved the measure in its regular session Monday; the raise takes effect next week.

Sports: Peyton's place. Peyton Manning made it look easy, as he threw for 374 yards and three touchdowns to guide the Denver Broncos to a 37-21 win over the Oakland Raiders on Monday Night Football. Manning was 32-for-37, and has yet to throw an interception three weeks into the NFL season. The Broncos have now won 14 regular-season games in a row, equaling a team record.
