Good Monday morning to you, and for the next month, it's War Eagle...
Weather: A Sudafed kind of day. The dreary weather from this weekend continues, with rain and even some thunderstorms continuing through the day. Highs will be in the lower 50s with a 60 percent chance of rain. Tonight will see rain continue with lows in the upper 30s and a 100 percent chance of rain. As the front moves out Tuesday morning, we could see the precipitation change briefly to sleet or light snow, but little or no accumulation is expected at the moment.
Tech titans take on NSA snooping. USA Today reports that a coalition of Internet giants that includes Google, Facebook, Twitter, Microsoft and Yahoo have banded together to fight electronic surveillance of American citizens by the National Security Agency. The government agency has the capability to eavesdrop on virtually every mobile telephone call in the country, various media reports revealed last week. The group, called Reform Government Surveillance, hopes to impose limits on what the information the NSA can get on its customers.
Sports: They made it. Thanks to a high-scoring win over Missouri in the SEC Championship on Saturday, plus a loss by then-No. 2 Ohio State in the Big Ten title game, Auburn will end its miracle season in the final BCS Championship Game on Jan. 6. The Tigers moved up to the second spot, just behind top-ranked Florida State and Heisman Trophy hopeful quarterback Jameis Winston. The announcement officially came Sunday evening. Alabama moved up to third, and will face Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl. It's the last year for the BCS title game; the new four-team College Football Playoff begins next season. If it had been in place this season, Auburn would have faced off in its semifinal against – you guessed it – the Crimson Tide... Prep wrestling: Pinson Valley took top honors in the Gardendale Wrestling Invitational on Saturday, beating out Oak Mountain and more than a dozen other teams. Mortimer Jordan placed third.
