Gardendale council looks to make zoning laws more flexible for developments

GARDENDALE — The Gardendale City Council is considering further revamping its zoning laws.

Council members heard the first reading Monday night of a proposed ordinance that would allow for flexibility on setbacks at planned unit developments (PUDs) on an individual basis.

They also heard the first reading on a second ordinance that, if passed, will eliminate several other ordinances and combine them into one new ordinance that updates fees and language. Councilman Alvin Currington said some fees will increase slightly, while others will decrease.

The fees in question — including legal, administrative and other fees — have not been changed since 1974.

The next meeting is Sept. 3, 7 p.m., at the Public Safety Center. It was changed from Sept. 2 because of Labor Day.
