Congressional candidates to face off in forum tonight at Samford University

HOMEWOOD — Six of the seven candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives Sixth district seat are scheduled to take part in a candidates' forum tonight at Samford University.

The debate, sponsored by WVYM NBC-13 television, WYDE 101.1 FM radio and the Samford College Republicans, will begin a 6 p.m. at the Wright Center. Both NBC-13 and WYDE will carry the debate live.

The candidates taking part include State Sen. Scott Beason of Gardendale, businessman Will Brooke of Homewood, Dr. Chad Mathis of Indian Springs Village, former Alabama Policy Institute President Gary Palmer of Homewood, attorney Robert Shattuck of Mountain Brook, and business owner Tom Vigneulle of Pelham.

State Rep. Paul DeMarco of Homewood will not take part because of a conflict with a previously-scheduled fund-raiser.
