Morris man among those arrested in major drug bust by sheriff's investigators

BIRMINGHAM — A big drug bust by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has resulted in the arrest of a man from Morris.

Matthew McGaha, 32, is one of three men arrested after a four-month investigation into trafficking in heroin, methamphetamine and GHB.

Chief Deputy Randy Christian said in a statement that McGaha and two accomplices were involved in buying large amounts of meth from a dealer in Atlanta for resale locally. Investigators tracked the group down to a residence on Birmingport Road in Mulga, which they raided last Friday.

Inside, deputies found 19 ounces, of the drugs. Christian said the amount was enough for 532 individual doses of heroin, plus meth with a street value of more than $100,000.

Also arrested were David Leigh, 34, of Mulga and Bradley Gipson, 23, of Edgewater. All three men were charged with trafficking in meth. McGaha was released on $50,000 bond, while Leigh remains jailed in lieu of $152,000 bond and Gipson is held in lieu of $52,000 bond.
