News briefs: Concert band to perform in Gardendale

Concert set for May 19

The Birmingham Community Concert Band will perform May 19, 3 p.m., at the Gardendale Civic Center. The public is invited to the free concert.


Bladder Cancer Walk Saturday in Gardendale

The second annual Ginny Dutton Memorial Bladder Cancer Awareness Walk is at the Gardendale Civic Center on Saturday at 8 a.m. Register at Registration is free; donations are welcome.


Prayer breakfast Friday

The Gardendale mayor’s prayer breakfast will be Friday, 6:45 a.m., at the Gardendale Civic Center. Tickets are $5 each.


Beautification contest under way

The Gardendale Beautification Commission is accepting applications for this year’s awards. Applications are due May 14 and are available at Gardendale’s city hall, civic center, chamber of commerce and public library.


Memorial Day service May 19 in Gardendale

Knights of Columbus Council 10354 and Fourth Degree Assembly 2849 will be sponsoring their annual Memorial Day Remembrance Service on May 19, 2 p.m., at Oakwood Cemetery in Gardendale.  For more information, call Ken Friedriched at 631-8768.
