FULTONDALE — A police officer who died on duty in 2011 will be remembered in Montgomery.

Fultondale Police officer David Riddlesperger will have his name added to the Alabama Law Enforcement Memorial ob Friday. The memorial is located on the south lawn of the State Capitol.

Riddlesperger died in a car crash as he was going off duty on October 31, 2011, when his patrol car crashed into a fitness club on Decatur Highway at the southern end of Gardendale. Though confirmation was never reported publicly, Riddlesperger is suspected of suffering from a heart attack. According his page at the Officer Down Memorial Page, Riddlesperger had just responded to a domestic disturbance call involving firearms.

Riddlesperger was 48, and served with Fultondale for five years, after a 20-year stint with the Birmingham Police Department, and was also a deacon at Enon Baptist Church in Morris.

His name will be added as part of an annual ceremony at the memorial, in which the fallen are honored with the traditional 21-gun salute.
