New Dollar General store in Gardendale robbed

GARDENDALE — The newest of Gardendale's three Dollar General stores was hit by an armed robbery Saturday afternoon.

Gardendale Police Chief Mile Walker said that the store on Fieldstown Road at Phillips Drive was held up at about 2 p.m.

The suspect was described as a black male, 6-foot-4 with a slim build. He was wearing a red shirt, khaki pants and basketball shoes, and he covered his face with a black shirt during the crime. Walker said that he later removed the red shirt.

The suspect left in a 1990s White Nissan Maxima, headed westbound on Fieldstown Road.
