FULTONDALE —
Debbie Dumais is a teacher at Fultondale Elementary whose son is a participant in Push America 2012.
Push America is an organization that is dedicated to helping physically and mentally disabled athletes participate in sporting events.
It was founded by Pi Kappa Phi executive director Duward Owen in 1976.
Dumais’ son, Alex, will be participating in the upcoming Push America Challenge 2012.
He is representing the University of South Alabama’s Pi Kappa Phi with his team, “Apostle Islands.”
The team, numbering 20 members, will go to Lake Superior for a canoeing and kayaking trip that will last four days.
“My grandfather was a paraplegic for over 30 years due to an accident, and since his passing, I have devoted my education and career to helping people with disabilities,” said Dumais in a letter urging support through donations to his team’s trip. “In a nutshell, this is something that is very close to my heart.”
Apostle Islands has set a goal of raising $3,500 for the trip to Lake Superior.
Those interested in donating may go to his profile on the web site for Push America, http://support.pushamerica.org/goto/AlexDumais.
Push America is taking donations.
