GARDENDALE —
Gardendale residents can expect some mosquito relief in the near future according to Jeff Holliyan, director of the public works for the city of Gardendale. Gardendale sent out a memo to all residents informing them that due to the case of West Nile Virus in Jefferson County, the public works department will begin spraying for mosquitoes Aug. 27 and will continue through Aug. 30 from 6 until 10 p.m. The chemical they will be spraying is Permanone 30-30. It is a fog that is effective in controlling a wide range of mosquito species. Peramone products have a long history of success in mosquito control and are widely used throughout the state.
The route that will be taken is as follows: They will start west of Highway 31, south of the city limits, and will proceed northwards. Once the west side is complete, they will begin on the east side of the highway, from Turnberry Ridge down to Pineywoods Road. All streets within the city limits will be sprayed.
