PINSON — There will be fireworks again at Pinson’s Alabama Butterbean Festival, thanks to a very appropriate sponsor.
Officials from the Clay-Pinson Chamber of Commerce told the Pinson City Council on Thursday that the California Lima Bean Growers Association will sponsor the fireworks. The group will also provide the beans to fill the festival’s famous world’s largest pot of butterbeans, and will also send 500 one-pound bags of lima beans to give away to attendees.
(Butterbeans and lima beans are the same bean under different names.)
The festival dates this year are October 4-5.
The council also re-authorized the purchase of a parcel on Main Street to add to park and green-space land. The council had voted previously to purchase the parcel, but had to approve it again using a quit-claim deed, due to problems with titles.
Library director April Wallace told the council that summer programs were attracting larger numbers of children to the 1½-year-old facility, including one program that filled the council chambers with several dozen attendees.
