PINSON —
Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to investigate a report of a home invasion in the 100 block of Jupiter Drive in Pinson just before 2:30 p.m. today.
When deputies arrived, the suspects had fled the area. The victim told deputies that he had noticed two men acting suspiciously in front of his home and watching him while he worked in his garage.
When he went to put some tools in his truck, one of the men approached him wearing a mask and pointing a gun. A second armed man entered the house. The victim drew his own hand gun and pointed it at the suspect, according to the sheriff’s office. The suspect called out to the man in the house who came running out.
The victim fired his gun, striking one of the suspects. Both got into a car and fled, leaving their guns behind.
Birmingham Police notified the sheriff's office that they were responding to a report of a person suffering from a gunshot at a nearby apartment complex. When they arrived, the man had been taken to the hospital.
Deputies found a 19-year-old suspect in the emergency room of St. Vicent East Hospital being treated. He had been dropped off by a second suspect.
While depuites were at the hospital, the second suspect returned with another man.
These two were taken into custody and are being interviewed by detectives.
More information will be provided as it becomes available.
