BIRMINGHAM — A longtime museum guard from Center Point has been sentenced on federal charges of receiving and possessing child pornography.

Loyd J. Hitt, 53, was sentenced Monday by U.S. District Judge C. Lynwood Smith Jr. to eight years and one month in federal prison on one count of receiving child porn, and another count of possession of child porn, according to U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance. The two sentences will run concurrently.

Court records state that Hitt ordered videos and photos through the mail of children involved in pornographic acts, and had those orders mailed to the Birmingham Museum of Art, where he worked for many years. Hitt also downloaded online images of child porn. The images were of boys aged 14 or younger.

Both transactions took place between May 2009 and October 2012.

Hitt pleaded guilty to the charges in February.
