UPDATE: Man arrested following Gardendale gas station robbery Thursday

GARDENDALE — A Gardendale man was arrested at about 5:30 a.m. Thursday, following the robbery of the BP gas station at Mt. Olive Road and Fieldstown Road.

Ronnie Painter, 37, was charged with robbery first degree. He is being held in the Jefferson County jail on a $60,000 bond.

The gas station was robbed at about 1 a.m. Thursday. The suspect was driving a dark blue or green Tahoe, which headed north on Mt. Olive Road. Officers spotted the vehicle on Mockingbird Lane and pursued the suspect, who jumped out of the vehicle on Treasure Trail and ran into the woods, according to Lt. Bryan Lynch.

Police set up a perimeter and searched the woods, but did not find the suspect there.

After additional investigation determined a suspect, police set up surveillance at his house. When the suspect left his house, he was arrested without incident on an outstanding failure to appear warrant and for felony investigation of a robbery.
