Updated: All local schools closed again Thursday; basketball playoffs postponed

Looks like local students will have the day off again on Thursday.

Jefferson County and Blount County schools, as well as Tabernacle Christian School in Gardendale, have called off classes for the third straight day because of winter weather.

In addition, Fultondale and Hayden high schools have postponed each of their girls basketball sub-regional playoff games until Friday at 7 p.m. Gardendale's game at Shades Valley will also be postponed by JeffCo policy, but there's no word on when it will be played; likewise, no word on Corner at Calera. (Locust Fork at J.O. Johnson near Huntsville was schedule for Friday all along, as part of a boy-girl doubleheader.)

The entire area is now getting light to moderate snowfall as of 7:30 p.m., and forecasters have increased the predicted final amount to be around four inches, perhaps a bit more in southern Blount County.

Jefferson State Community College will also be closed Thursday. Wallace State-Hanceville has delayed classes until 10 a.m., and UAB until 11 a.m.

We'll update this story throughout the night.
