FULTONDALE —
The staff of the Fultondale Public Library is looking to move into a new and much bigger building in the near future.
Like the Evelyn Thornton Library in Warrior, Fultondale’s library staff have been planning to move into a new building for several years, said librarian Jessica Allen.
On July 23, a groundbreaking ceremony was held by Mayor Jim Lowery and the city council in the area where the new building where be.
“We are so thrilled,” said Allen. “So ready. This has been a long time coming.”
Allen said the building will probably be twice the size of the current one. It is estimated that the project will be completed in 10-12 months.
The same staff that works in the current library will be staffing the future one.
The cost of the project is estimated to be around $1.5 million.
In addition to a bigger selection of books, the new library will also have more computers and will introduce a few new things. An outdoor reading area will be part of the building, as well as private reading rooms and a meeting room.
Construction was set to begin last year but was delayed by the April tornadoes.
