Friday is here and the weekend is near...

Weather: Nice today, rain tomorrow. We'll have clear skies today with a high in the middle 60s. Lows tonight will fall to the upper 40s. Rain moves into the area on Saturday, with highs in the upper 60s and lows in the lower 50s. Rain continues on Sunday.

Obama prepared to sign controversial order. President Barack Obama has announced plans to sign an executive order that fits with his previously-stated desire to fight what he calls “income equality.” The president plans to sign an executive order that changes current rules for salaried employees and overtime pay. Currently, those paid $455 a week or less who have at least some supervisory role are exempt from being paid overtime; Obama plans to raise that number significantly. Opponents say it will cause many businesses to lay off personnel.

Sports: Hat trick. Enrique Aguilar scored three goals as Fultondale shut out Jemison 5-0 in boys soccer play Thursday. Elsewhere, Gardendale lost 5-1 to Hewitt-Trussville. In girls' play, Hewitt blanked the Rockets 4-0, and Clay-Chalkville beat Fultondale 4-1... Baseball: Mortimer Jordan pitcher Taylor Goodwin struck out 11 Hueytown batters in one game, and Wes Crawford fanned seven in the other as the Blue Devils swept a doubleheader Thursday. Elsewhere, Gardendale blasted Carver 16-0 in five innings.
