In north Jefferson County, it’s time for campaigning to begin for the municipal elections, which will be held on Aug. 28. Tuesday was the deadline for candidates to qualify for to run for office, and more than 60 threw their hats into the ring for mayor or council members in the area.
Weather: Rain and thunderstorms are expected today and tomorrow. The high for today is 92 degrees, and the low is 74. Lok for more of the same for the next week.
Traffic: No construction is scheduled in the area. Just stay safe on slippery roads.
Education: The state has overturned the Birmingham Board of Education’s firing of city schools Superintendent Craig Witherspoon. The state is dealing directly with Witherspoon in the state takeover of the school system.
Confession: Nathan Van Wilkins, 44, reportedly confessed to opening fire in a Tuscaloosa bar early Tuesday. Seventeen people were wounded. Wilkins was jailed on 18 counts of attempted murder; his bonds total $2 million. One count of attempted murder is from a shooting Monday in Northport that left one person wounded.
