MT. OLIVE — This Saturday, The Salon in Mt. Olive will host a bridal expo for upcoming brides.

Melissa Gray, a stay-at-home mom of three, operates a mobile DJ service with her husband. While trying to find ways to expand their business, they came up with the idea of “The Bride’s Golden Ticket.”

Gray said they needed to find local business that would provide support and referrals, “but I wanted to give something back.”

In today’s economy, Gray said that “our small businesses get swallowed up by the big retailers” and emphasized the importance of helping the little guy.

Gray contacted multiple local businesses that can help brides prepare for all of their wedding-day needs. All of these companies will come together on Saturday to offer coupons and discounts for the bride.

These coupons and discounts have come to be called the bride’s “golden ticket.”

Gray and other local businesses will come together for the bridal show, a first for Gray. The more than 20 sponsors that will be present include businesses such as Fultondale AAA, K&K Jewelers, Images Bridal and Pageant, the Reid Brake House, Nail Art, Poise & Ivy, Tux Unlimited, The Salon, LA Photography, Mary Kay consultant Pam Honeycutt, Silpada Designer Jewelry, Renay Parker with Re/Max Realty, and many others.

There will also be a free wine tasting for another local Alabama business, Morgan Creek Winery.

This bridal show will have door prizes from all vendors, among other giveaways including a $150 giftcard for In The Groove DJ Services.

“I didn’t think it was going to go this far,” Gray says of her first attempt at a Bridal Expo. “It just kind of blew up.”

The Salon is located at 2456 Mt. Olive Rd. and can be contacted at (205) 253-9797. The Bridal Expo will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
