While the election was settled for most municipal candidates on Aug. 28, there will be a few important runoff elections next week.
The towns of Gardendale, Fultondale and Trafford all will host runoff elections on Tuesday.
Runoffs are held when no candidate receives a majority of votes in a race that has three or more candidates. A majority means 50 percent of the votes, plus one more vote.
Trafford citizens will choose a new mayor between incumbent Robert Niblett, who received 66 votes, and challenger Clint Daniels, who received 53 votes.
Gardendale and Fultondale are both having runoff elections for council seats.
In Gardendale, there was only a two-point difference between the candidates for District 1. Allen Jerkins received 302 votes, and 300 residents cast ballots for incumbent Peggy Tumlin.
The city of Fultondale is having two runoff elections. In Place 3, incumbent Darrell Hubbert garnered 723 votes and his opponent Jimmy Lay received 660.
Also in Fultondale, two former councilmen will again face off: Greg Morris, who received 447 votes, and Thomas ‘Tip’ Blizzard, who received 408.
Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
