Sheriff's patrol car goes pink to promote breast cancer awareness

BIRMINGHAM — Sheriff Mike Hale says a pink patrol car was influenced by football players, of all things.

"We love our football here in the south, especially in Alabama. If the NFL can wear pink on their uniforms then certainly we can do our part to bring attention to this terrible disease," Hale said in a statement as his department unveiled its newly-painted pink car.

The car is intended to raise awareness of breast cancer and support research to end the disease. It was unveiled Thursday morning at the department's fuel facility in downtown Birmingham.

"It is difficult to find a family not affected in some way by breast cancer, including my own and many others in the Sheriff's Office and across this county, state and nation. We must keep the pressure on until we defeat this cancer," Hale said.

The pink car will be used on various patrols around the county during October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The new paint job was done with donated supplies and labor from Rozar's Auto Paint Supply, Michael's Automotive and The Graphics Shop.
