GARDENDALE — Police have arrested an elementary-school teacher on drug-related charges.

Kendrick D. Tolbert, 26, of Gardendale was arrested late last week on charges of second-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Tolbert was arrested in the parking lot of the Woodbrook Apartments, where he lives. Gardendale Police spokesman Lt. Bryan Lynch said the department received a call about a suspicious person. Upon arrival, an officer found Tolbert smoking marijuana in his car, the arrest report states.

Tolbert is listed in the report as being a teacher at Erwin Elementary School in Center Point.

A spokeswoman for the Jefferson County Schools said that they do not comment on cases involving school personnel until the case is adjudicated, per standing policy.
