NORTH JEFFERSON —
Lovers of military vehicles are in luck this month.
The Dixie Division Military Vehicles Club (DDMVC) is hosting its annual Military Vehicle Display and Swap Meet June 22-23 at Gamble’s Truck Accessories in Mt. Olive, located at 2816 Mt. Olive Rd.
Ronnie Guin of Mt. Olive, vice president of the club, said there will be several Jeeps and other vehicles on display. Guin has restored three military Jeeps that are all in running condition.
The vehicle show draws people from across the state.
One special guest who usually attends the event is John Graham, a member of the 31st Infantry Division, or the “Dixie Division” from which the club draws its name. The division was activated in 1940 and served in New Guinea and the Philippines during World War II.
Graham turned 100 years old last year. Guin said his appearance at the annual vehicle show is a special treat.
Also this year, the DDMVC will host the Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA) 2012 National Convention, set for June 28-30 at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville. The DDMVC is a member of the MVPA.
Guin said it is an honor for a club to host the national convention.
“It means our club is healthy,” he said. “It means national has confidence in you.”
At the national convention, there will be military vehicle displays and judging, plus much more
Visitors will find 300 tables of military vendors and suppliers of vehicles, clothing, books, models, replica and prop guns, surplus and other equipment.
There will also be an actual Scud missile and missile launcher used in Iraq.
For more information, call Ronnie Guin at 631-0723.
